DSWD Field Office 6 – Western Visayas

Spanning the islands of Panay and Guimaras, Western Visayas is one of the country’s administrative regions, often referred to as Region VI. It is also home to Field Office VI of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The DSWD is the executive department of the Philippine government that is tasked to promote social development, while protecting the rights and welfare of Filipinos — most especially the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized sectors.

Location of DSWD Field Office VI – Western Visayas

DSWD Field Office VI is located at Iloilo City in Iloilo province. It works together with Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) offices in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Guimaras provinces.

Cities/Municipalities Under DSWD Field Office VI – Western Visayas

DSWD Field Office VI covers the five provinces that comprise the Western Visayas Region: Iloilo, Aklan, Antique, Capiz, and Guimaras.

The largest province, Iloilo, is made up of 42 municipalities and two cities: Iloilo City (the capital), and Passi City. Notably, Iloilo City also serves as the regional center of Western Visayas.

The provinces of Capiz, Aklan, and Antique have 16, 17, and 18 municipalities, respectively. Capiz includes one city, Roxas, which is also its capital. Meanwhile, Kalibo serves as the capital of Aklan, whereas the capital of Antique is San Jose de Buenavista.

As for Guimaras, this is an island province that consists of five municipalities, with Jordan as the provincial capital.

Key Programs and Services

Along with other regional offices around the country, DSWD Field Office VI implements the following programs and services.

Assistance to Individuals In Crisis Situations (AICS). This consists of different types of assistance provided to individuals and families in crisis situations. It includes medical assistance, educational assistance, transportation assistance, and more.

Disaster Response Management Services. In times of natural calamities or man-made disasters, the DSWD provides relief assistance, temporary shelter, cash-for-work programs, and other services.

Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons (RRPTP). This program comes to the rescue of human trafficking victims. It includes basic services such as food and emergency shelter, medical assistance, psychological assistance, legal assistance, livelihood training, and reintegration assistance, as well.

Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). This is a conditional cash transfer program that provides educational grants, health grants, and other benefits to impoverished families. It is also the national anti-poverty program of the Philippine government.

Listahanan. This is an information management system that helps determine families who belong to the “poorest of the poor” sector. It is operated by the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR).

Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP). As the name implies, this program focuses on the provision of nutritious meals, mainly to young children in the community.

Sustainable Livelihood Program. This is a community-based program that aims to improve people’s socioeconomic status by building their capacities. It involves two tracks: Employment Facilitation and Micro-enterprise Development.

Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services – National Community-Driven Development Program (Kalahi CIDSS-NCDDP). Another community-based program, Kalahi CIDSS-NCDDP also seeks to improve people’s socioeconomic status, while building the capacity of local government units (LGUs) and other stakeholders, too.

Center and Residential Care Facilities. These facilities serve as temporary shelters providing various services to victims of domestic violence, street children, recovering drug users, and other vulnerable sectors. In Region VI, these facilities include:

  • DSWD Home for Girls in Cabatuan, Iloilo;
  • Regional Rehabilitation Center for the Youth (RRCY) in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras;
  • Regional Center for Women in New Lucena, Iloilo; and
  • Provincial Center for the Protection and Development of Women and Children (PAGSAPUPO Center) in San Jose de Buenavista, Antique

Adoption and Foster Care. The process of placing children under foster care or adoption is facilitated by the DSWD.

SLP Association Receives PHP 160K for Rice Enterprise

A check of PHP 160,000 was recently given to SUCQUE SLP Association, which is based in Barangay Suclaran, San Lorenzo, Gumaras. The amount will be used for the association’s rice trading livelihood enterprise.

The check was presented to the association’s President, Analie Buatag, as well as to Secretary Kem Marie Mislang and Auditor Ronelyn Largo.

Philippine Red Cross Recognizes DSWD Western Visayas

The Philippine Red Cross – Iloilo Chapter has recognized DSWD Field Office VI for its contribution in the promotion of the National Voluntary Blood Services Program.

For several years now, the field office has conducted bloodletting activities that has benefited many. The award was received by the Chief of the Human Resource Management and Development Division, Ryan dela Gente.

DSWD FO6 and Bacolod City LGU Sign MOA

DSWD Field Office VI and Bacolod City LGU signed a memorandum of agreement for the Yakap Bayan Program on September 6, 2024. Yakap Bayan is a drug recovery program of the DSWD.

The field office’s Regional Director, Atty. Carmelo Nochete, stressed the importance of aftercare in the journey of recovering drug users. Meanwhile, Hon. Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez expressed his support for the program, stating the importance of removing the stigma from those who have used drugs.
