DSWD Field Office 4B – MIMAROPA

Tasked to protect and promote the rights and welfare of Filipinos, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) plays an important role in the country’s socioeconomic development. Its central office is located in Quezon City in the National Capital Region, but it also has field offices in every region of the country.

One of these field offices is dedicated to the Southwestern Tagalog Region, which is better known as Region IVB or “MIMAROPA.” This office covers the provinces of Mindoro (divided into Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro), Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan.

Location of DSWD Field Office IVB – MIMAROPA

The main office of DSWD IVB is located in Malate, Manila. In addition, it has Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) offices in each of the provinces that it covers.

Cities/Municipalities Under DSWD Field Office IVB – MIMAROPA

As mentioned earlier, the acronym MIMAROPA stands for Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan. These are the provinces covered by DSWD Field Office IVB.

Occidental Mindoro is comprised of 11 municipalities, with Mamburao as the provincial capital. Meanwhile, Oriental Mindoro has 14 municipalities and one city, Calapan City.

The island province of Marinduque is made up of six municipalities, with Boac as the provincial capital. On the other hand, Romblon has 17 municipalities, with the municipality of Romblon as the provincial capital.

As for the province of Palawan, it is comprised of 23 municipalities and one city, Puerto Princesa, which is also the provincial capital.

Key Programs and Services

The DSWD implements various programs through all of its regional offices, including Field Office IVB. Its main programs are as follows:

Center and Residential Care Facilities. These facilities cater to vulnerable sectors such as victims of domestic violence, child labor, and abandoned/neglected senior citizens. Some of the centers in MIMAROPA are:

  • Bahay Kanlungan (Haven for Women and Children) in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro;
  • MIMAROPA Youth Center in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro; and
  • CSWD Group Homes for Children in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

Adoption and Foster Care. The DSWD is responsible for overseeing the placement of children under foster care or adoption.

Assistance to Individuals In Crisis Situations (AICS). Individuals and families in crisis situations can go to the DSWD for different types of assistance, be it medical, transportation, or livelihood.

Disaster Response Management Services. In times of typhoons, earthquakes, and other calamities, the DSWD provides assistance in the form of relief goods, emergency shelter, cash-for-work, and other programs.

Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons (RRPTP). Victims of trafficking, exploitation, and similar forms of abuse are referred to DSWD’s RRPTP program, which offers temporary shelter, basic social services, legal services, livelihood assistance, and more.

Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program. Better known as “4Ps,” this is a conditional cash transfer program that provides educational grants, health grants, and other services to low-income households.

Listahanan. This is an information management system used in determining and identifying the poorest households in the country. It is operated by the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR).

Supplementary Feeding Program (SFP). This program supplements nutritious meals to children in communities who have been identified as underweight and/or malnourished.

Sustainable Livelihood Program. Carried out in two tracks (Employment Facilitation and Micro-enterprise Development), this community-based programs aims to improve the socioeconomic status and build the capacity of its participants.

Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services – National Community-Driven Development Program (Kalahi CIDSS-NCDDP). This is another community-based program that also seeks to improve beneficiaries’ socioeconomic status, while building the capacity of local government units (LGUs) as well.

DSWD IVB Receives Award for Disaster Response

DSWD Field Office IVB – MIMAROPA received a Plaque of Recognition on August 17, 2024 at the Provincial Capitol Training Center in Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro. The award was given as part of the National Disaster Response Month (NDRM) celebrations.

The ceremonial event, themed “Pagpupugay Para sa Alertong Manggagawang Mindoreño (Praise for Alert Mindoreño Workers),” aims to recognize the outstanding contributions of government agencies to disaster response and management in the province.

Turnover Ceremony of Concreted Barangay Road

DSWD MIMAROPA held a turnover ceremony for its completed project, “Concreting of Barangay Access Road” at Barangay Bucana, El Nido, Palawan on August 20, 2024.

The project was completed through the efforts of the KALAHI-CIDSS Regional Program Management Office and Area Coordinating Team (ACT). The turnover ceremony was attended by barangay officials, community volunteers, and local government officials.

The newly concreted road will make is easier for Barangay residents to travel and have greater access to various community services.

MIMAROPA Youth Center Celebrates 15th Anniversary

The DSWD MIMAROPA Youth Center (MYC) celebrated its 15th anniversary on August 23, 2024 at the MYC Compound in Bansud, Oriental Mindoro. The event’s theme was “Pagtanaw, Pasasalamat, at Pagbabahagi ng Tagumpay (Recognizing, Thanking, and Sharing of Success).”

During the event, a Holy Mass was held, along with the blessing of the MYC’s new facilities. The valuable contributions of MYC partners were also recognized.
