The Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, better known as 4Ps, is the national anti-poverty program of the Philippine government. Implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), program applicants are carefully assessed to make sure that only those who are qualified are selected.
Recently, however, false information about the 4Ps program made the rounds on social media. Fortunately, the DSWD has been quick to respond and dispel the rumors. Keep on reading to learn more!
Fake News About 4Ps Spreads on Social Media
Through its official Facebook page, the DSWD warned against a post that promises a reward for those who can reveal “undeserving” beneficiaries of the 4Ps program.
“P1,000 na reward sa makapagtuturo o makakapagtip ng mga hindi karapatdapat na benipisyaryo ng 4Ps (P1,000 reward for those who can reveal undeserving beneficiaries of 4Ps),” the post said.
“Ito and pinag-aaralan gawin ni DSWD upang linisin ang listahan ng 4Ps (This is what DSWD has been planning to clean the list of 4Ps),” the post added.
In response, the DSWD announced that the post was “fake” and cautioned readers against believing content that did not come from credible and reliable sources.
The agency also cited Republic Act 11310, Sections 5 and 6, which states that beneficiaries of the 4Ps program should have gone through assessment by the National Housing Targeting Unit (NHTU) or Listahanan.
Meanwhile, the DSWD also conducts regular assessments to “clean” the list and to correct any errors in the program.
That being said, the DSWD stated that if anyone knows any 4Ps members who should not be in the program, they can report directly to the nearest DSWD Office, which will verify the details. They can also send a message to the 4Ps Facebook page.
Moreover, the agency urged its social media followers to report the Facebook page that spread the fake news: https://www.facebook.com/DSWDAssist/. (As of this writing, the said Facebook page has been deleted).
