Valenzuela Senior Citizen Benefits from Centenarian Act

Based on a Facebook post by DSWD, Secretary Gatchalian visited “Lola Marcosa” in her residence at Paso de Blas, Valenzuela City, on Tuesday (7th May 2024). She had just turned 100 years old, making her a beneficiary of Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016 — a law that the DSWD is tasked to carry out.

Secretary Gatchalian also featured the visit on his Facebook page. “Had the privilege to bring the 100K Centenarian check for Mrs. Marcosa Liwanag,” he wrote.

“Our Centenarian was born on April 24, 1924, in Brgy. Mapulang Lupa, Valenzuela City,” the Secretary added. “Mrs. Liwanag is a bonified Valenzuelano. She raised her six children alone while working as a fruit and vegetable vendor.”

Notably, the Centenarians Act of 2016 authorizes the provision of incentives to Filipinos who have reached 100 years old and above. Recently, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. signed Republic Act 11982 or the Expanded Centenarians Law, which provides cash incentives to Filipinos who have reached 80, 85, 90, and 95 years old, as well.
